Today was supposed be one hundred degrees in town so Dan and I went up to this spot he knows up Brice Creek. It was a beautiful little hole in the forest with a rock to jump off and sunbathe on. Only one group was up there, three girls, and later a couple with a dog showed up when we were leaving. I finally jumped off the high rock about a half an hour before we left. I stared down for about ten minutes before I actually jumped. It was a long way down, and a shockingly cold jolt to the body once it hit the water! But it felt good...

Strawberries from my backyard!

ready for baking

Over the past two days I have picked about 4 pounds of strawberries from my backyard, and I have absolutely no idea what to do with this many strawberries. I gave a bowl to my mom, made preserves, strawberry-kiwi tarts, and fruit salad, but I am running out of ideas!
Tasty stuff though, and I also noticed that the cherry tree is starting to fruit! How rad....
Neko Case is playing at the Wow Hall on Thursday the 29th. Tickets are 15 bucks, and since none of my girlies live here I had to go out and make friends which was done successfully at the previously noted Mad Scientist party. Yay me and my social compatibility!

The Mad Scientist Graduation Party

There is nothing like walking into a party where the punch is smoking from dry ice, measuring cups filled with liquid nitrogen are holding anything and everything to be frozen and smashed with a hammer, green jello platters encase dismembered barbe dolls, and goo comprised of various different ingredients can be found everywhere. Moving through the house there are scientific and mathematical equations posted all over the walls, and in the back yard a small fire is the preparation for the favorite experiment of the evening. In the background is a huge replica of the Newton balls, made with bowling balls. Salt is helping water conduct enough electricity to power a lightbulb, and a toxic metal waste barrel is heated and then cooled which causes the coolest implosion I have ever witnessed. While their I rounded up a couple of girls to attend the Neko Case show on Thursday, as well as an invite to a Naked Lady Party, my first. A fab time was had. One lesson learned of the evening: Don't put the science experiment in your mouth. While this is extremely straight forward, nearly everyone at the party had to eat a nitrogen-frozen raspberry after witnessing the painful freezing to the lips/tongue/ roof of the mouth which went along with it. EAch person would watch as the next idiot plopped the innocent looking raspberry into their mouths, and then laugh as the look of fear and panic crossed their face when they realized they might not ever be normal again. My tongue is still burned from the cold!

Turkey Lasagna

Chop an onion, saute in a bit of olive oil, add a bay leaf, add two minced cloves of garlic. Add one pound of ground turkey breast or sweet italian turkey sausage, and cook. Add some chopped criminis (or portobellos), some chopped spinach (more than you think), saute until reduced. Add a can of tomato sauce, and a bit og crushed tomatoes. Cook down for a long time, add basil and oregano and fresh ground black pepper to taste. I also put in a touch of honey. Cook 8 oz of lasagna noodles. Mix together 3/4 cups each of ricotta and lowfat cottage cheese. Grate 12 ounces of mozzerella. Layer noodles, then sauce, then ricotta dots, sprinkle mozzerella, until gone or the pan is full. Sprinkle the top with extra parm and oregano. If possible layer a few fresh basil leaves througout the lasagna also. Add sliced portobellos or other mushrooms, zucchini, other stuff as needed. Cover with tin foil, and bake at 350 degrees for atleast 45 minutes, then uncover and cook for another 10 or so. Yumm.

Buttons galore!

I am feeling tired from waking up early this morning and driving out to dexter to watch a crew practice. I rode in the boat with the coach and listened to his feedback on how the crews were rowing. I went out there to see what it was all about because one of the people I work with thinks I would be good at "coxing". This is the duty of the person who sits at the front or back (depending on how you are looking at things) and shouts out directions and tells the rowers where the other boats are in the race. I would rather row, because atleast then there would be a workout to justify getting up and driving out to the dexter-lowell reservoir two mornings a week at the crack of dawn. I just don't know if I am that motivated at that hour. But I did run today, so that says something!

Everyone went to the baseball game but me...

Dan has a baseball game right now and everyone is going but me. I am having feelings of being an unsupportive girlfriend but I am so excited about being on my couch right now that I can imagine no where else I would rather be.

Saturday = Lazy

Today I woke up late, went to the store and made french toast with challah bread topped with marionberry sauce and fresh cut bacon on the side for Dan and I. It was a great way to start our Saturday, now I plan on a nap and then a tennis game this afternoon. How fab.
